The Founding of Chilli Jazz Radio

Chilli Jazz Radio is owned by Thomas Stevens, who, together with his father Gary, established the station during the Covid pandemic. Their shared vision and determination led to the creation of a unique platform dedicated to jazz and big band music.

Thomas: Overcoming Challenges

Thomas is Autistic and faces learning difficulties, but these challenges have never deterred him from pursuing his ambitions. His unwavering commitment to realising his dream of becoming a Big Band and Jazz Radio Presenter is evident in everything he does.

A Lifelong Passion for Radio

Thomas’s enthusiasm for radio began at a young age. He spent many years presenting Big Band and Jazz programmes on hospital radio, and later moved on to Lincoln University community radio, “Siren FM”. However, when the Covid pandemic struck, Thomas was unable to broadcast live from the studios in Lincoln. Recognising how important radio was to his son, Gary suggested they set up Thomas’s own internet radio station.

Community Support and Launch

In autumn 2020, a crowdfunding campaign was launched to support the new venture. The generosity shown by family, friends, many of the guests Thomas had interviewed, and the wider public was overwhelming. They successfully raised enough funds to launch Chilli Jazz Radio, marking the beginning of an exciting journey.

Progress and Commitment

On 17 July 2021, Chilli Jazz Radio officially launched. Since then, Thomas and Gary have worked tirelessly to gain experience and uphold professional broadcasting standards, ensuring the station’s continued growth and success.

Live Broadcasting and Guest Presenters

Thomas presents the majority of Chilli Jazz Shows live on air. The station also features regular guest presenters, and Thomas has convinced his dad Gary to take to the microphone and present shows himself, further enriching the station’s programming.

Maintaining Operations

Due to budget constraints, Thomas and Gary must raise funds themselves to cover all expenses associated with running the station. They launched a website at www.chillijazz.com which will take you to our shop www.chillijazzstore.com.
